About me

DSIU’s AccelerateON Portal

AccelerateON is the portal page for the Digital Solution & Innovation Unit (DSIU). The DSIU is responsible for automating processes across the Ontario Public Service (OPS).

Due to the NDA, I cannot disclose details about the research compiled during this project, but please feel free to contact me (felenazchau@gmail.com) for the general internship experience!

Role: UX + Graphic Designer, Researcher

Tools: Figma, Miro, Blender, Adobe Illustrator

Timeline: 8 months (May 2024 -January 2025)

Problem Space

OPS staff are required to use internally developed tools due to governance restrictions, often navigating fragmented and complex processes across multiple systems. This results in friction, inefficiencies, and time spent searching for information.

The goal was to centralize key project information, such as consultations, budgeting, and licensing, into a single, comprehensive hub on the AccelerateON page to improve findability, reduce friction, and save staff time.

All designs adhere to the Ontario Design System to ensure consistency, accessibility, and alignment with government standards.

Original Design

The goal was to create a visual graphic welcomes and encourages members across the Ontario Public Service to feel comfortable reaching out. Automation and code can feel intimidating, the design intentionally communicates openness, approachability, and a willingness to help.

Hero Banner Designs

Hero banners play a critical role in first impressions, quickly communicating purpose, tone, and value.

EARLY CONCEPTS

Initial concepts explored a stronger focus on team branding, but these directions were deprioritized in favor of designs that better reflected user needs and emphasized empathy over internal branding.

  • 3D DSIU logo: Created using Blender
  • Hexagon tile pattern: Designed using Adobe Illustrator

Concept 2: Communications assembly line 🤖

Auditing

Conducted regular UX audits to identify inconsistencies across content, layout, and user experience, and worked closely with cross-functional product teams to prioritize findings, inform design updates, and improve consistency and quality across shipped releases.

Tree testing

Validated the proposed navigation using a low-fidelity prototype to assess content findability and clarity.

Round 3

Usability Testing

Refined and validated the navigation within a high-fidelity mockup.

Due to the NDA, I’m unable to share results and details about the research conducted during this project.
