About me

PlantPal, a digital plant pot

PlantPal is a digitized plant pot and companion mobile app designed to help users maintain healthier plants through real-time feedback, reminders, and care guidance. The product addresses common challenges such as inconsistent watering, insufficient light, and limited plant care knowledge by translating environmental data into actionable insights.

Tools: Figma, Blender, Adobe Photoshop

Timeline: 1 month (January 2025)

Physical Prototype

A hands on prototype used to test scale, usability, and how the pot fits into real living environments.

3D Prototype

A 3D model used to explore form, screen placement, and how digital elements integrate into the plant pot.

Problem Space

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Many individuals bring plants into their living spaces for aesthetic and wellness benefits, but struggle to care for them consistently. Plants provide little feedback before damage becomes visible, making it easy for users to overwater, underwater, or misinterpret their needs, often realizing too late that the plant is stressed or dying.

Why it matters

Plant neglect is rarely caused by lack of interest, but by lack of immediate feedback and reminders. Without clear signals, plant care becomes an infrequent task that is easy to forget. PlantPal reduces cognitive load by making plant needs visible, timely, and understandable, enabling users to intervene early and build sustainable care habits.

Key Insights

Through secondary research it was revealed that:

01

Lack of Reminders: Due to heavy reliance on technology and notifications, users often struggle with infrequent tasks that do not provide clear or timely reminders.

02

Plant Care Errors: Overwatering and underwatering are the leading causes of plant failure, often resulting from uncertainty around proper care.

03

Urban Plant Ownership: Indoor gardening continues to grow in popularity, particularly among apartment and urban residents who lack access to outdoor green spaces.

These insights highlight the need for proactive reminders, real-time feedback, and accessible care guidance.
